For over 35 years, Children’s Haven, aka “Refugio”, has provided a refuge for children facing difficult situations; poverty, abuse, abandonment, and the main reason, a family that has fallen apart. Though our funding has always been international, the focus of our love and Christian care has been on the needy children of Mexico.
ENTER: Jacqueline, a lovely 12 year old, whose single mother brought her to Mexico, from Honduras, in 2006. Like so many others, Jahki’s mother’s plan was to cross the Rio Grande in search of a better future for her and her daughter in the US. Read more »
Meet the Alvarez Boys

Because Juan, Dan, Pablo & Miguel are so well adjusted, it’s been hard for our visitors to believe that they’ve only been at the Home for a few months!
It was just this March that Mrs. Alvarez was brought to the Home by a local pastor. She broke down in tears immediately, as she began to tell us her story, that of a a modern Mary Magdalene. Read more »
Miriam Lizbeth Lucio del Angel: One of our “Angels”

A little over a year ago, DIF (Mexican Social Services) brought a young lady to the Home and asked that we’d keep her on a temporary basis, until other arrangements could be made. Realizing that we don’t usually take in older teens, they thought we’d make an exception since two of her younger siblings were soon to be transferred to us from another Home. It was a difficult decision because apparently, they’d had behavioral problems with her in several other Homes in Reynosa, but we agreed.
The girl being referred to is Miriam Lizbeth Lucio del Angel, aka: Angela. Not only have we not had any behavioral problems whatsoever, she’s actually become terrific role model. Her main concern is the well being of her younger siblings Nereyda y Valentin. Read more »
